WORKSHOP: Throwing Hints & Tips with Mark Knight

Experienced ceramist Mark Knight will demonstrate and explain his technique of throwing; demonstrating a large variety of pots. He will cover how to obtain thinner walls, creating the correct curve for large bowls and how to add a neck or rim to a form.

Come prepared to try throwing larger forms or delicate porcelain pieces. Mark will be happy to assist with problems you may have.  Please let Mark know in advance of any problems you may be having, so he has time for any preparation he may need to do.  Mark can be contacted via email

Somchai Charoen Workshop


Somchai Charoen

Somchai Charoen is a ceramic artist based in Sydney who has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Trained in industrial ceramic design, he was a former lecturer at Silpakorn University, Thailand (1994-2002). Since migrating to Australia, he has worked commercially as a mould and model maker as well as established his ceramic home ware label Eat Clay. Somchai is the co-founder of Belmore ITCH, a creative residency for non-ceramic artists to experiment, explore and interpret the medium.

Morning Session from 10.00-12.00am.
Somchai Charoen will be conducting experiments in mould-making using waste materials such as sawdust and newspaper etc. This includes making clay prototypes and plaster prototypes.

Afternoon Session from 1.00-2.30 pm.
Somchai will showcase the idea of mould-making using plaster sheets followed by tips and techniques about mould-making.
